Interview with MAIIKO
Where are you from?
Mexico, Malta.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
Mau P, John Summit, Dom Dolla.
Tell me about how your creation part begins, and how is your workflow.
I try to get the main idea down before I focus on the fine-tuned sound selection, so as not to get demotivated and to keep the workflow high.
Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration by listening to other genres and identifying cool elements to incorporate into my own style/genre.
Describe how art is essential to society nowadays.
Art, especially music, is crucial in today’s world because I believe it is the most powerful way to evoke emotion in every situation. From a sad song in a tragic movie scene to pumping high-energy bass at a festival. Music can evoke so many emotions.
What motivates you to create?
Every time I play one of my songs for others, and they like it, it inspires me to create more.
How do you define success as a music artist?
Success in music is finding an audience that really appreciates and enjoys the music you create.
Does art help you in other areas of your life?
I always play music in the background while doing other things, so yeah, it's a big part of my life.
How do you develop your art skills?
The only way to develop is by trial and error — keep creating until you hit gold. The mistakes only help you learn more.
What is your next move?
I have an EP in the works that I plan to release in the coming month. It’s been the biggest project I’ve made to date, so I'm really excited.
Where will we see you in 5 years?
Hopefully, I can share my music live more often and connect with the crowd through the music I create.
