With roots in Australia, formative years spent in the UK’s late-’90s music scene, and a creative home now firmly planted in Los Angeles, RUBYFAY is an artist shaped by movement, emotion, and deep sonic exploration. Her music is guided less by rules and more by feeling — a process that begins with sound itself and unfolds intuitively through texture, atmosphere, and layered vocals.
Influenced by the bold musical output of late-’90s England and the sleek emotional pull of Scandinavian synth-pop, RUBYFAY creates music that feels both expansive and intimate. For her, songwriting is not just about storytelling, but about translating lived experiences — travel, human connection, fleeting moments — into immersive soundscapes.
Her latest release, “SOS,” reflects this philosophy. It’s a piece born from instinct and emotional honesty, where melody and atmosphere lead the way and lyrics emerge as a response rather than a starting point. Music, for RUBYFAY, is emotional freedom — a way to process the world, connect with others, and remain grounded in what it means to be human.
As she continues to evolve as an artist and storyteller, RUBYFAY’s vision extends beyond music alone. With ambitions that include film and multidisciplinary storytelling, SOS stands as both a signal and an invitation — to listen closely, feel deeply, and follow the sound wherever it leads.
What motivates you to create?
Creating is how I make sense of the world. I don’t really know how else to exist without it. Some of my earliest memories of music come from my mother playing ABBA on her record player in a small country town in Australia. I was completely captivated—how songs from a band a world away could transport you out of your current reality and into something bigger. That feeling of escape and connection stayed with me. Music, for me, is emotional freedom, and that’s what continues to motivate me to create.
How do you define success as a music artist?
I think the idea of “success” can be tricky for an artist—or anyone, really—because it looks different for everyone. For me, success isn’t measured by numbers or external validation. I make art for myself first and foremost. The act of seeing a piece through from the initial spark to the finished work feels like a victory in itself. Getting it to the finish line, staying honest to the process, and creating something that feels true—that’s what success means to me.
Does art help you in other areas of your life?
Absolutely. Art helps me relate to every part of my life. It’s like a friend I can go to anytime to work things through. It’s great therapy.
How do you develop your art skills?
I develop my art skills by staying open to learning and growth in every part of my life. New experiences, challenges, and perspectives naturally find their way into the work. The more I evolve as a person, the more depth and clarity I’m able to bring into my art. For me, skill isn’t just technical—it’s about perspective, and that comes from living, paying attention, and allowing myself to keep changing.
What is your next move?
Just keep making art.
Where will we see you in 5 years?
I’ve just written my first movie, and I plan to produce films and place my music—and my artist friends’ music—within them. Music and storytelling expanding into new worlds.
Thanks for your time!
