In a world overflowing with noise, notifications, and never-ending to-do lists, Alihoco emerges with a refreshingly heartfelt approach to creativity. Hailing from the quiet English town of Nantwich, he brings an honest warmth to his work — whether he’s crafting a children’s book for his daughter or writing the kind of Christmas anthem meant to be belted out on a crowded office dance floor. With his new single “Christmas Is Here!”, Alihoco steps into the timeless tradition of holiday storytelling, drawing inspiration from icons like Adele, Lily Allen, Bing Crosby, and Robbie Williams.
In this interview, he opens up about the meaning behind his music, the joys and challenges of creation, and how art continues to shape his life far beyond the studio. Here’s a closer look into the mind of an artist who believes in simplicity, sincerity, and the magic of bringing people together through song.
Where are you from?
I am from a town called Nantwich in the UK.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
I’ve always been influenced by artists who can capture warmth and emotion in a really honest way. Songwriters like Adele and Lily Allen taught me the power of simplicity and melody — how a song can feel like a hug. I’m also inspired by classic Christmas storytellers such as Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole, who created music that feels timeless and transcends the generations.
Tell me about how your creation part begins, and how is your workflow?
For this song I wanted to write a song that would be sang on the dance floor at an office Christmas party, a class anthem style with a catchy chorus. In my mind Angels by Robbie Williams and Place Your Hands by Reef — both of which bring people together to sing along.
Where do you find inspiration?
When my daughter was born (in 2015) I decided that there were two things that I was going to do in her honour:
- Write a children's picture book (called Ted's Bike Ride, available on Amazon)
- Write a Christmas song
The words to two songs came out of nowhere and strangely easily to me. Finding the melody has proved to be more difficult.
When is your favorite time of day to create your music?
Normally when everywhere goes quiet and I get some headspace!
Describe how art is essential to society nowadays.
Art is essential to society because it helps us make sense of the world in ways that facts and data can’t. Where everyone is fixated on their phone and social media, music still allows us to escape into our heads and shift our minds away from the current moment. It even helps us time-travel!
What motivates you to create?
Just to have other people enjoy the music.
How do you define success as a music artist?
By simply creating something that I am happy with and proud of. Other people's opinions don't actually affect me. Some will like it, some won’t — so what! If I’m happy with it, I consider it a success.
Does art help you in other areas of your life?
Art is escapism. Whether that’s sitting on the shoreline looking at the landscape on a cold windy day, or listening to a song that stirs an emotional response. Being momentarily taken out of the ‘now’ is re-energising.
What is your next move?
My next move is to write my second children's book. I am waiting for inspiration to hit at the moment though… but perhaps having a young family is a bit too all-consuming!
Where will we see you in 5 years?
Unless this song turns me into Hugh Grant in About a Boy, I’ll still be doing my day job and still trying new things. I can't stick to the 9–5 — I need something exciting to think about.
