Jaysdead is not just another artist in the global indie-punk landscape — he’s a creator shaped by movement, emotion, and a relentless drive to transform life’s chaos into melody. Born in the United States to Indian immigrant parents, raised across multiple cities, and later rooted in Mumbai, Jaysdead carries with him a world’s worth of experiences that echo through every chord he writes.
With his upcoming single “My Hands”, part of a ten-track rollout under a fresh distribution deal with GMJ/Warner Music India, Jaysdead opens a new chapter — raw, introspective, and beautifully honest. In this conversation, he takes us deep into his creative process, his inspirations, and the philosophy that guides his art.
Where are you from?
That’s a good question. I was born to Indian immigrant parents in the USA, lived in many homes, and went to seven high schools including Melbourne Beach, Florida, Boston, and Connecticut. Later I moved to San Francisco where my parents live. I moved to Mumbai, India in 2008 and have lived here since.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
Descendents, NOFX, Operation Ivy, Bad Religion, Nirvana.

Tell me about how your creation part begins, and how is your workflow.
A lyric melody typically pops into my head when I’m in that writing headspace. I capture it quickly on a voice note so I don’t forget it — sometimes even in the middle of the night. Later I strum the guitar, sing it, and refine the lyrics once all parts are fleshed out.
Where do you find inspiration?
From challenges in life, hardships. I have a relentlessly positive personality, so I channel emotional experiences into music.
When is your favorite time of day to create your music?
Usually late at night when ideas come to me as I try to sleep. I record a voice note, and then early the next morning — between 6 and 7:30 am — I finish the song. Sleeping on an idea lets my subconscious develop it.

Describe how art is essential to society nowadays.
It connects us to our inner child. Without nurturing that part of ourselves, we create voids we try to fill with things that don’t satisfy us. Art — whether music, painting, skateboarding, or anything else — keeps creativity alive and helps society grow.
What motivates you to create?
Other people’s creations, and the process itself. I love creating something from nothing.
How do you define success as a music artist?
Finishing songs is already success — especially when it involves other people. Beyond that, success depends on your goals: fans, shows, or something else entirely.
Does art help you in other areas of your life?
Yes, absolutely. Creativity is my core competency. I use it as a designer and as a musician.
How do you develop your art skills?
Through trial and error, lots of exploration, and self-teaching. I’m a ’90s kid — we taught ourselves everything, from skateboarding and surfing to music and painting.

What is your next move?
We just got a distribution deal with GMJ (Warner Music India), finished a new 10-song album, and will release one track every month. Our first single, My Hands, drops this month. Being a musician today requires more marketing than music — but we’re doing our best.
Where will we see you in 5 years?
Hopefully at one of our shows!
Thanks, take your time to answer the question!
My pleasure. I hope you check out our new song My Hands, and I hope you love it. We’ve put our heart and soul into it.
As our conversation with Jaysdead comes to an end, one thing becomes unmistakably clear: his music is an extension of his journey — shaped by movement, emotion, and a lifelong instinct to create. With My Hands marking the beginning of an ambitious new chapter, he steps forward with honesty, gratitude, and an unshakeable belief in the power of art to connect people across experiences and continents.
Whether he’s capturing ideas in the quiet hours before dawn or crafting full stories with nothing but a melody and a guitar, Jaysdead embodies the spirit of an artist who refuses to stop growing.
And as he looks ahead — toward shows, new releases, and a global audience — one can’t help but feel that this is only the beginning. The world is about to hear a lot more from Jaysdead.
