Chris on ‘In the Dark’ and the Stories Behind the Music

With his latest single “In the Dark”, Chris delivers a raw and heartfelt record that explores heartbreak, struggle, ambition, and redemption. Written during a turbulent chapter of his life, the track came to life in late-night studio sessions, blending trap soul, West Coast rap, and melodic drill with deeply personal lyricism.

Raised in Southern California, Chris has built a reputation for turning real experiences into unapologetic music. His sound reflects the grit of hip-hop fused with the emotion of soul and the power of street storytelling. From his time serving in the U.S. Army to confronting personal battles and finding redemption through faith, every line carries the weight of his journey.

We sat down with Chris to talk about the story behind “In the Dark”, his creative process, and where his music is headed next.

Where are you from?
I’m from Southern California, where my environment has shaped both my grind and my creativity. The mix of city life, street stories, and cultural diversity gives my music a raw but relatable edge.

Who are your biggest artistic influences?
I draw influence from artists who blend pain, real-life struggles, and storytelling into their work—people like Mo3 for his street storytelling, and others who pour authenticity into every line. I also pull inspiration from my own journey—military service, battles with addiction, and finding redemption—which makes my music deeply personal.

Tell me about how your creation part begins, and how is your workflow.
I usually start with emotions before words. Whether it’s a beat, a thought, or even a memory, I let that spark guide me. From there, I write raw, unfiltered lines and shape them into structured verses. I like to build in layers—first capturing raw energy, then refining it so the story hits harder.

Where do you find inspiration?
From my life—my scars, my mistakes, my victories, and my journey toward becoming the man I know I’m meant to be. Inspiration also comes from everyday struggles people face—trying to pay bills, losing love, fighting demons, or chasing dreams.

When is your favorite time of day to create your music?
Late at night. That’s when the world is quiet, and my thoughts are the loudest. It’s the perfect time to tap into emotions and let them flow without distractions.

Describe how art is essential to society nowadays.
Art is therapy. It gives people a way to process pain, celebrate joy, and connect with others who feel the same. In today’s world—where so many feel lost, pressured, or overlooked—art reminds us we’re not alone. It keeps culture alive and gives voice to people who might not otherwise be heard.

What motivates you to create?

My motivation comes from survival and purpose. Creating is how I release pain, how I inspire others walking through the same darkness, and how I prove to myself that my story has meaning. Music is more than a dream—it’s a way to turn struggles into strength.

How do you define success as a music artist?
Success for me isn’t just money or fame—it’s impact. If someone hears my music and feels understood, motivated, or less alone, I’ve done my job. Of course, building a career that provides for my family is part of it too, but the core of success is changing lives through my words.

Does art help you in other areas of your life?
Absolutely. Writing and creating music helps me process emotions and stay grounded. It builds discipline, focus, and even patience—skills I carry into business, fitness, and everyday life. Art has been both a release and a guide.

How do you develop your art skills?
By staying consistent—writing, recording, and experimenting with different sounds. I study artists I respect, practice delivery, and never stop learning. I also let life experiences fuel my growth; every hardship adds another layer to my art.

What is your next move?
My next move is to keep building momentum—dropping tracks, pushing visuals, and establishing myself as an artist with a clear voice and story. I’m also focused on expanding my brand, making connections, and creating content that sticks.

Where will we see you in 5 years?
In five years, you’ll see me as a recognized name in the music industry, with a catalog of powerful music, a loyal fanbase, and business ventures that support my community. You’ll see me using my platform to inspire others who feel trapped by their past—showing them that change and success are possible.

Chris’s story is one of resilience, honesty, and transformation — and his music reflects every step of that journey. “In the Dark” is just the beginning of what promises to be a powerful chapter in his career.
